Pence Still Hasn’t Filed Paperwork to Withdraw from Governor’s Race

Republican governor Mike Pence still has not filed the necessary paperwork to withdraw himself from the governor’s race that would allow him to run for vice-president, two sources inside the Indiana secretary of state’s
office tell THE WEEKLY STANDARD.

As of 5 p.m. Thursday evening—close of business—the documents had still not been filed, according to the Indiana Election Division and a spokesman for Indiana secretary of state Connie Lawson. Business hours resume at 8 a.m. Friday.

Pence’s team has until noon to file the papers. A state reporter for the Evansville Courier & Press, Zach Osowski, reported that a surrogate can drop off the documents in Pence’s place.

According to local Indianapolis reporter Jim Shella, Pence was on a plane at 4:10 p.m. Thursday bound for New Jersey. Donald Trump is expected to formally announce his running mate Friday morning in Manhattan.
