DOJ interviewing career FBI officials for James Comey’s interim replacement

The Justice Department is looking for the interim FBI director inside its own walls.

A DOJ official told the Washington Examiner that in addition to acting Director Andrew McCabe, four other men with a history at the FBI are being interviewed at the agency in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.

Those men are:

  • Adam Lee, special agent in charge, Richmond Division.
  • Michael Anderson, special agent in charge, Chicago Division.
  • Paul Abbate, assistant director of Criminal, Cyber, Response & Services Branch.
  • William Evanina, national counterintelligence executive and director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center.

The DOJ official said the new interim director will be named “within the week, possibly today.”

Any permanent candidate for FBI director will need to be both nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the Senate.
