On signing day, Terps have reason to celebrate

Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen made good use of his reprieve, recruiting a strong class of incoming freshmen. On national signing day Wednesday, Maryland expects to ink at least 21 players. The Terps’ group is ranked No. 35 in the nation by Rivals.com and No. 39 by Scout.com.

Four of the players the Terps expect to sign are four-star prospects (Rivals), all with local ties: DT Nate Clark (Carroll), DB Titus Till (Wise), LB Javarie Johnson (Dunbar) and LB David Mackall (Edmondson-Baltimore).

Virginia Tech »  Frank Beamer’s incoming class ranks No. 18 in the nation (Rivals) with an emphasis on in-state talent. Of the 21 players the Hokies expect to sign today, 15 are from Virginia, including all six of its four-star prospects (Rivals). Locals include Brian Laiti (Robinson) and Chase Williams (Loudoun County), son of former Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

Virginia »  New coach Mike London expects to sign at least 16 players Wednesday, including four-star prospect Morgan Moses (Fork Union), a 6-foot-7, 340-pound offensive tackle. Virginia’s incoming class is rated No. 67 (Rivals) and includes locals Khalek Shepherd (Gwynn Park), Kyrrel Latimer (DeMatha) and E.J. Scott (Good Counsel).

Navy »  The Midshipmen’s class is ranked No. 116 (Rivals). Navy again has mined one of its favorite recruiting grounds, receiving commitments from six players from Texas. Among the three-star prospects are a pair of linebackers from Las Vegas. Navy’s eclectic list of 24 includes players from 13 states.
