Former NBA star Dennis Rodman wrote to President Trump on Wednesday offering words of encouragement as Trump’s “Ambassador of Goodwill to North Korea” while the president meets with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Vietnam.
In the letter, which Rodman shared on Twitter, he said his friendship with Kim “remains strong” and pushed Trump to use that dynamic to the “benefit” of the U.S.
As Trump seeks to iron out more concrete details of a largely symbolic denuclearization agreement reached during his and Kim’s first meeting last summer in Singapore, Rodman said Trump is shaping up to be a prime candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.
“You are on the cusp of a big, beautiful deal. One that would make you the front runner for a Nobel Peace Prize without question,” Rodman said. “You have my forever and forever support!”

Rodman also said he plans to follow up with both Trump and Kim after their meeting in Hanoi concludes, saying “[w]e have a lot of work to do.” Rodman said he was not in Hanoi for the event.
Rodman, who knows Trump from starring in the businessman’s “Celebrity Apprentice” reality show,” has said in the past that his own meetings with Kim paved the way for the talks between the U.S. and North Korea.
Rodman also claimed to have a role in the release of U.S. student Otto Warmbier, who was held captive by North Korea and died soon after his return in 2017.
The State Department, however, denied this was the case.
