NBC’s Al Roker ‘on the way to recovery’ after blood clots in lungs and legs revealed

NBC meteorologist Al Roker revealed on Friday why he’s been off the air for two weeks, sharing that he was in the hospital being treated for blood clots in his lungs and legs.

“So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been,” the veteran Today host posted on Instagram.

“Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs,” he wrote.

Roker, 68, said he was “fortunate” for the medical care he has received, and after some “medical whack-a-mole,” he is “on the way to recovery.”

“Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon,” he posted.

His colleagues commented on his post with messages such as “Can’t wait to have you back!” and “Praying every day for a speedy recovery!”

They also took time during the show on Friday to wish him well.

“It’s hard to slow down, Al, but he’s on the mend, and he’s on the way to recovery. I don’t know if he watches this show, but we love you, Al,” anchor Savannah Guthrie said.

“We miss you,” she added.

This is not the first medical diagnosis to take Roker off the air. In November 2020, he was absent while receiving treatment for prostate cancer.

“Not great news is that it’s a little aggressive, so I’m going to be taking some time off to take care of this,” he said at the time.
