Carroll residents are standing tall after the county?s forestry board ruled Tuesday that the plan to raze trees near the airport would leave the forest too bare.
It?s a small victory for anti-expansion residents, who believe the plan to cut down trees in six acres is to accommodate expanding the airport?s runway 1,300 feet, to 6,400. The county approved the expansion two months ago despite vehement opposition from residents, and it says the trees block lighting?maintenance that would be performed with or without expansion.
“It?s supposed to be for a new lighting system, but ifthe airport gets expanded, they?ll have to move it,” said Ron Buczkowski, co-chair of the Carroll Joint Neighborhood Association, a residents group. “There are a lot of unanswered questions.”
