Last week, we told you how the House went out of its way to recognize July 26 as the National Day of the American Cowboy.

Not to be outdone, certain senators even admitted that the people’s business was keeping them away from cowboy country.

Enduring a rare Saturday session last weekend, Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., said, “I want to take this moment to remind everybody that today is National Day of the American Cowboy as designated by Congress. I was hoping to be at Cheyenne Frontier Days to make that announcement today, along with my fellow senator, [John] Barrasso, but our votes make that virtually impossible.”

At least Enzi was able to make it to the Capitol. Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., took to the floor to explain that he “ran into construction on I-95, ran into construction on New York Avenue, and arrived right at the end and missed the first vote.”

Perhaps if he had a horse…
