‘Not that I haven’t thought about it’: Hillary Clinton denies throwing lamp or book at Bill

Hillary Clinton joked about a decadeslong rumor that she threw a lamp or a book at her husband, Bill Clinton, over his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

“No, not that I haven’t thought about it. But no, I never have done it,” the former secretary of state told Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen on Thursday.

The stories have circulated since the early 1990s. In 2015, a book by Kate Andersen Brower fed into the rumor mill by including accounts of three times Clinton allegedly threw an object at her husband.

In 1993, the Chicago Sun-Times, citing “wicked Washington whispers,” reported that the first lady broke a lamp “during a heated late-night argument” at the White House with her husband.

Years later, after Clinton discovered her husband’s affair with Lewinsky, then a White House intern, a maid found blood all over the president and first lady’s bed, according to Brower.

“He insisted that he’d hurt himself running into the bathroom door in the middle of the night,” the book said.

An unidentified White House worker told Brower, “We’re pretty sure she clocked him with a book.”

Another worker recalled a book “flying out of” the bedroom while the first lady was in it.
