While former White House press secretary Sean Spicer is facing backlash for appearing on this season of Dancing with the Stars, he has gained an unlikely defender.
Karamo Brown, who stars as the culture expert in the Netflix series Queer Eye, defended Spicer when asked about the show. Brown is also a participant in this season.
“Sean Spicer and I have been talking, yeah, like literally I was most excited to meet him,” Brown told Access. “People would look at us and think that we’re polar opposites, but I’m a big believer that if you can talk to someone and meet in the middle, you can learn about each other and help each other both grow.”
He added he had been talking to Spicer “all day” because “he’s a good guy.” Brown noted it was kind of weird for him of all people to come to Spicer’s defense.

Tom Bergeron, one of the longtime hosts of the show, said he was unhappy with having Spicer on because he thought a decision was made not have politics involved.
“It is the prerogative of the producers, in partnership with the network, to make whatever decisions they feel are in the best long term interests of the franchise,” Bergeron said. “We can agree to disagree, as we do now, but ultimately it’s their call.”
Other cast members for this season include former NBA star Lamar Odom, Bachelorette star Hannah Brown, actor James Van Der Beek, supermodel Christie Brinkley, and former NFL star Ray Lewis.
The season is scheduled to debut Sept. 16.
