Maryland Democrats are criticizing Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry, calling him “far-right, divisive and out of the mainstream,” ahead of the Texas governor’s planned fundraiser in Baltimore Tuesda night.
“Rick Perry and the rest of the GOP presidential hopefuls are wedded to positions that are far-right, divisive and out of the mainstream,” Maryland Democratic party spokesman Matthew Verghese wrote in an e-mail to reporters. “These Tea-Partying Republicans would dismantle Social Security and Medicare, roll back critical protections for consumers and promote economic policies that will lead the country back into recession.”
Tickets are $2,500 for Perry’s fundraiser at the Center Club in downtown Baltimore. Before the fundraiser, the Maryland Democratic Party plans to hold a conference call with reporters to “discuss Perry’s disastrous record and his agenda, which will hurt the middle class, seniors and students while protecting millionaires and big business.”
Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and the head of a Texas teachers’ union will join the call.
