Julia Louis-Dreyfus laments fall of Al Franken, #MeToo movement’s ‘takes no prisoners’ approach

Comedy actress and HBO’s “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus believes victims of sexual misconduct, but said there are far worse accusations out there than the ones leveled against disgraced former Sen. Al Franken.

Dreyfus argued that the alleged misconduct “pales in comparison to what else is going on out there. This #MeToo revolution, I’m very much in favor of it, but it takes no prisoners.” According to Time, Dreyfus followed up weeks after the interview and said her “default position is to believe victims.”

She also said Franken, who was accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct, was on the “right side” of the issues and wants him to make a comeback.

“He was and is an intelligent leader who got things done,” she said in an interview with Time. “He was on the right side of the issues.”

Franken, D-Minn., stepped down last year after he was accused by radio host Leeann Tweeden of forcefully kissing her when the two were practicing a skit as part of a USO tour in the Middle East in 2006. She also said Franken groped her while she slept on the flight from Afghanistan after the tour ended.

A photo was released that shows the senator, then a comedian, putting his hands over Tweeden’s breasts while she was sleeping.

Franken apologized and said: “As to the photo, it was clearly intended to be funny but wasn’t. I shouldn’t have done it.”

Other women later came forward and accused him of inappropriately touching them.
