On Mainstreet Meets the Beltway, the Washington Examiner’s Salena Zito is joined by two guests. First up, a former member of the Ohio Senate representing the 32nd District, Capri Camaro. A “screaming moderate” as Zito puts it, Camaro is a Democrat who appears on Fox News often and writes for the Washington Examiner. She is the first to point out that not many Democrats will even think about going on Fox or any conservative media, but Camaro says that “it’s important for all sides to see all perspectives, and recognize we’re just all Americans.”
As Zito is one to do, the two discuss a wide range of topics from life in the Midwestern United States and delis to elections and politics. Having traveled all across flyover country, Zito says that in all elections most voters aren’t swinging far to the left or the right, but seek out competence and leadership, as this is what gets results.
After a lengthy discussion, Zito is joined by her second guest, Charlie Gerow from the American Conservative Union. Gerow is a political expert and writer who has seen dozens of elections in his career. He joins Zito to discuss special elections and if they are as special as it seems. According to Gerow, the media overplays the importance of a special election “by a factor of about four hundred.”
