Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., cited a conservative publication Thursday in a last-minute attempt to rally her colleagues and scuttle the Senate’s combined “continuing resolution” and “omnibus” spending bill, also known as the “cromnibus.”
“Conservative activists have jumped in … they are raising their voices today to say that this provision has no place in a must-pass spending bill,” Warren said, referring to a measure in the bill that would tweak the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
Warren then cited RedState contributor Leon Wolf, who wrote in an article, titled “The Democrats Have a Great Point on CRomnibus,” featured on the conservative website’s front page:
Warren continued, railing against the bill’s proposed changes regarding financial regulation and political contributions: “Now, these conservative activists are right. If you believe in smaller government, how can you support a provision that would expand a government insurance program and put taxpayers on the hook for the riskiest private activities?”
The RedState team was amused.
“I think Elizabeth Warren citing a conservative site shows how so many people agree on the problem in Washington even if we disagree on the solution to that problem,” RedState editor and conservative radio host Erick Erickson told the Washington Examiner.
Referring to having his work cited by a liberal senator, Wolf told the Examiner: “I am a man of honor. I know what must be done. My seppuku will take place at sunset.”
