ANACORTES, Wash. (AP) — Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Sen. Maria Cantwell, Reps. Rick Larsen and Suzan DelBene celebrated the designation of the San Juan Islands National Monument with environmental, tribal and other community leaders Monday morning at an event in Anacortes.

Another celebration was planned Monday afternoon on Lopez Island.
