The U.S. Navy on Thursday released video showing the extent to which China has expanded reefs in the South China Sea.
The video, which showed members of Navy Patrol Squadron 45 flying aboard a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, also documented several warnings by China urging the aircraft to leave the area.
China has been using dredging equipment to blow sand onto the reefs to create airstrips. The move is part of Beijing’s aggressive claims over disputed islands in the South and East China seas.
