President Trump said Monday afternoon that the U.S. will have a second summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un in the “not too distant future.”
“We will be having the second summit with Chairman Kim in the not too distant future,” the president told reporters, adding that his administration is in “no rush” to get a deal done.
The president said that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be “dealing with that subject” and that Pompeo has been “in touch with” with North Korea. The location is yet to be determined, but the format will be “very similar” to the summit in Singapore earlier this year, Trump said.

“It’ll be announced pretty soon,” Trump said. “I think a lot of progress is being made. I see tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of Chairman Kim towards making a deal … We are in no rush. There is no hurry. We got back three months ago or so. I think we’ve made more progress than anybodies made ever in regards to North Korea.”
Trump added that his administration is committed to helping North Korea in its goal of expanding its economy.
“I really believe that North Korea has the tremendous economic potential and I believe that Chairman Kim and the people of North Korea want to see that potential arrived at,” Trump said. “We will help them to that end.”
