Just when you think Beto O’Rourke cannot be any more pitiful, he proves everyone wrong.
The flailing 2020 Democratic candidate and his campaign team are trying to make his response to a mass shooting go viral. Because what better way to promote oneself than with a fatal tragedy?
On Saturday, during a campaign stop in Virginia, O’Rourke said of the Midlands, Texas, mass shooting, “This is f—– up.”
The next day, during an appearance on CNN, O’Rourke said of mass shootings in general, “This is f—– up.”
Later that same day, his campaign team announced the release of an official Beto 2020 T-shirt that reads, “This is f*cked up. This is f*cked up. This is f*cked up. This is f*cked up. This is f*cked up. This is f*cked up. End gun violence now.” The shirts cost between $30 and $33. All proceeds will go to the pro-gun control groups Moms Demand Action and March for Our Lives, according to Team Beto:
New in the store…
100% of the proceeds will benefit @MomsDemand and @AMarch4OurLives.
This is fucked up. We can change it. https://t.co/PFRWFCypAl pic.twitter.com/Us1V4mz1cf

There is a difference between a person having a genuine gut reaction to a mass shooting event and an all-too-obvious attempt to make “fetch” happen. The no-hope 2020 candidate’s CNN appearance this weekend, paired with the sale of official “This is f*cked up” shirts represent the latter.
Remember: O’Rourke enjoyed a massive viral hit in 2018 with his comments in support of the NFL protests. He has been chasing that viral high ever since, as his gun violence t-shirt and similarly desperate 2020 gimmicks make painfully clear. Too bad he has nothing to show for it. O’Rourke is polling in eighth place, 0.4 points behind tech bro Andrew Yang.
