President Trump plans to run for re-election in 2020 but is leaving the door slightly ajar for Republicans with presidential ambitions, according to a new interview.
“Well, you never know what happens with health and other things,” Trump said during a clip of a prerecorded interview with ITV’s “Good Morning Britain,” which will be aired in full Monday morning.
But Trump, 72, insisted he felt “good,” saying that he “fully intended” to seek another term in office.
“I look forward to it,” he said, adding Democrats were yet to identify a viable challenger.
“I know them all and I don’t see anybody,” Trump continued. “I know many of them, I’ve seen them, I’ve dealt with them, and so far they do not have the right candidate.”
Trump also praised Queen Elizabeth II and British Prime Minister Theresa May, despite questioning May’s approach to Brexit negotiations of behalf of the United Kingdom in an interview with the Sun published Thursday.
Trump on Friday condemned the Sun’s report, in which he cast doubt on his willingness to pursue an official bilateral trade arrangement with the U.K., and said a deal “will absolutely be possible” once the country’s withdrawal from the European Union is complete.
