The Maryland Lottery on Monday announced it ended the fiscal year on June 30 with record-high sales, prizes awarded to players, and commissions earned by retailers.
The lottery totaled $1.577 billion in sales for the year — the 10th consecutive year sales increased. As a result, the lottery will contribute more than $494 million to the state to support education, public health, public safety and environment services.
“The results speak very well for Maryland and the residents,” said Buddy Roogow, lottery director.
In the fiscal year from July 1, 2006, to June 30, 2007, the lottery paid players more than $919 million in prizes, more than $16.5 million than the year before.
The Maryland Lottery was launched in 1973 and has contributed more than $10.2 billion to the state to support a wide range of programs and services.
