Donald Trump continues to lead the GOP field, but his edge in the race is getting too close for comfort.
In a new NBC/Marist poll in both Iowa and New Hampshire, Trump continues to hold serve in both states as the likes of Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina are making his lead even more tenuous as the GOP race hits the fall.
In Iowa, Trump leads Carson with 24 percent to 19 percent, a five-point lead, with Fiorina and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush coming in with 9 and 8 percent support, respectively. Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal all garner 6 percent backing.
Trump’s five-point lead is down from seven in late August, in which he led Carson 29-22 percent.
Meanwhile, Trump’s lead in the Granite State has fallen from 16 points to five points — with the real estate mogul leading Fiorina with 21 percent to 16 percent support. Trailing the two outsiders are Bush and his 11 percent support, and Rubio and Carson, both of whom sit at 10 percent.
In the previous NBC poll, Trump led all comers by 16 points — with Ohio Gov. John Kasich in second with 12 percent.
The poll was taken after Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker exited from the race nearly two weeks ago.
