Donald Trump Jr. has withdrawn from a speaking engagement at a fundraiser for George P. Bush, after the Bush family publicly criticized the Trump administration for separating immigrant children from their parents at the border, according to a report Tuesday.
George P. Bush, the son of former Florida governor Jeb Bush, was reportedly told by Trump Jr. that, despite their friendship, he would not be able to support him if his family continued to criticize the Trump administration, a source told CNN.
“Children shouldn’t be used as a negotiating tool. @realDonaldTrump should end this heartless policy and Congress should get an immigration deal done that provides for asylum reform, border security and a path to citizenship for Dreamers,” Jeb Bush tweeted.

According to CNN, Bush’s tweet led Trump Jr. to withdraw.
The source also told the outlet that Trump Jr.’s withdrawal had nothing to do with the controversial op-ed from former first lady Laura Bush.
The fundraiser was set to be held on June 25 in New York.
