Police say a man shot and wounded his girlfriend, then fatally shot himself, in Gaithersburg on Saturday morning.
The shooting happened on the 400 block of North Summit Avenue at about 11:15 a.m., said Capt. Paul Starks, a Montgomery County police spokesman.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the 42-year-old man shot his 54-year-old girlfriend, then turned the gun on himself, Starks said. The man was killed.
His girlfriend escaped from the home and called police, Starks said. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
Their names have not been released.
