Four years after his first failed presidential campaign, Rick Perry is asking GOP voters to give him a second chance.
The former governor of Texas announced Thursday morning that he is running for the 2016 Republican nomination via his website, rickperry.org.
“I am running for president because I know our country’s best days are ahead of us,” said a message on the site, which is also flanked with a 90-second YouTube video called “Rick Perry: Where I Come From.”
Perry is expected to officially launch his campaign at 11:30 a.m. local time in a speech from Addison Airport, outside Dallas, Texas.
Perry, who was the longer serving governor in Texas state history, from 2000 to 2015, certainly will hope his 2016 campaign fairs better than his 2012 one, which ended after a series of bad speeches.
He is also currently under indictment for abuse of official capacity, a first-degree felony, and for coercion of a public servant, a third-degree felony. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
With 2.7 points, he is currently polling 10th in a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
