Society is fallen, and Miley Cyrus’ ‘Mother’s Daughter’ video is proof

Perhaps the Amish have it right. Perhaps they saw what was coming down the pike, and that’s why they bowed out of mainstream society long ago. Right now I wouldn’t mind joining them. After learning about Miley Cyrus’ new album, very provocatively and inappropriately entitled “She Is Coming,” I welcome the idea of living a sheltered existence.

The main feature of Cyrus’ album, a song entitled “Mother’s Daughter” that Cyrus and her mother appear in together, can only be described as feminist porn. If you can stomach watching, as over 28 million others apparently can, as the lyrics “Don’t f— with my freedom” are repeated again and again while Cyrus rubs her body against another woman who’s wearing a dog collar and uses her tongue in a way a prostitute might, here it is.

Hard to believe there was a time when Hollywood was bound by contract to impart moral messages and to avoid subjects that were considered improper. Tinseltown has long since given up on that front, which means the only Americans left who can reject the smut Hollywood produces are parents. There’s literally no one else.

Educators won’t do it; schools have long since abdicated any moral authority. Religious leaders will, but Americans are increasingly no longer religious. It’s up to parents and parents alone to shield their children while they still have their attention from the trash that gets delivered to their doorsteps every day and falls squarely into their children’s laps.

Make no mistake: It is children and young adults to whom Cyrus is peddling her message. She created her new video with, among others, an 11-year-old girl and two trans activists, one who’s 18 and one who’s 20.

Those of us who are old enough to know a better world, one where manners and decency and respect abound, are left shaking our heads at how far we’ve fallen. You may hear people defend Cyrus with their insistence that young people have been pushing the envelope for generations and that this is no different.

No healthy, mature person would agree with that. There’s pushing the envelope, and there’s falling off a cliff. We’re clearly in the valley.

Forget about the the morbidly obese woman who’s featured in the video as an example of empowerment when in fact obesity is America’s greatest heath crisis. Forget about the absurdity of Cyrus claiming that “virginity is a social construct.” Those things pale in comparison to the images and messaging in the video that are no different from what one would find in an X-rated film.

Not only does Cyrus use her tongue and her hands to sexualize herself and other women, in promoting the album she’s photographed licking (again, in a highly sexualized manner) a birthday cake that reads “ABORTION IS HEALTHCARE.” How absolutely vile.

“Mother’s Daughter is not art. It is propaganda and indoctrination,” writes Vigilant Citizen. Indeed it is. It appears the cute, talented, young Cyrus, who once sang powerful hit songs such as “The Climb” that do so much good for so many people, failed to grow up into a talented swan. Rather, she reeled girls in when they were young and impressionable with positive, uplifting messages, and then 10 years later came in for the kill. Even more disgraceful is that her mother has now come along with her.

As the name and the lyrics of “Mother’s Daughter” demonstrate, Cyrus is who she is because of her mother. She wants to encourage your daughters, the many, many millions of them, to follow suit.

The question isn’t what to do about Cyrus. The question is, what are you going to do about your daughters?
