Only one local congressman was among those recognized Monday for having a quality Web site.

Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer’s site received a “Silver Mouse” award from the Congressional Management Foundation, and his Majority Leader site earned a Bronze Mouse.

For the rest of Congress, however, the picture wasn’t so pretty. The most common letter grade for House sites was a “D.”

“The good news is that 19 more offices won awards in 2007 than did in 2006, including 16 freshman members,” said CMF Executive Director Beverly Bell. “The bad news is that there were 20 more Ds and Fs.”

Among the lowlights: One-third do not have a search function, 57 percent lack information about state and local issues, and 26 percent don’t offer links to sponsored legislation.
