Terry Turns 51
Only hours before Sen. Hillary Clinton faced off against Sen. Barack Obama in Saturday’s Louisiana, Nebraska and Washington contests, one of her biggest cheerleaders — campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe — enjoyed a surprise birthday party at Hillary’s campaign headquarters in Ballston.
The whole soiree was put together by “The Chairman”‘s wife, Dorothy, as well as the couple’s five kids. McAuliffe was indeed surprised, having been lured away from a day of nonstop fundraising and political calls on behalf of Hillary (and it may even have worked: The Clinton campaign reported Sunday that they had raked in $10 million online since Super Tuesday). And it didn’t take long for his five year old son, Peter, to jump into his arms and wishDaddy a happy birthday.

The party featured two huge sheet cakes (one of which read “Happy Birthday to the Greatest Chairman”), lots of beer and plenty of soft drinks to give attendees enough caffeine to keep them working long through the night. Of course, any McAuliffe party is always a party, thanks both to the Chairman’s bounce-around-the-room energy and the fact that his memoir (now out in paperback, he was sure to remind everybody) is called “What a Party!”
