Donald Trump will be forced away from the campaign trail Monday, when he is due to serve jury duty in New York City.
“I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s fun,” the current GOP poll leader said of jury duty Friday night at a campaign event in New Hampshire, according to Fox News.
Although it’s unclear how long the detour could keep Trump off the campaign trail, his staff has said that the campaign will go on.
The billionaire businessman and reality TV star is scheduled to appear at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines Saturday, where a number of candidates on both the Republican and Democratic sides have been meeting voters and delivering speeches. Iowa is the first state to hold primary votes, with caucuses in February.
Trump tweeted Saturday morning that he was in his private plane headed to Des Moines, and that he hoped to give children helicopter rides at the fair. Fair organizers have previously said that it would not be possible to accommodate Trump’s helicopter.
Offering helicopter rides is one example of the bombastic and unorthodox methods that Trump has employed to top the polls in the GOP primary race. He currently holds nearly an eight-point lead over his Republican competition in Iowa, according to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, at 19.3 percent. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson polls in second, with 11.7 percent.
