Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw wins first reelection bid

Freshman Texas Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw won reelection on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old Navy SEAL veteran defeated Democratic candidate Sima Ladjevardian in Texas’s 2nd Congressional District, according to the Associated Press. He was first elected to Congress two years ago.

While his district was called early on election night, Texas is a state to watch in the presidential election. Texas is a must-have state for President Trump, but polling as the election neared showed that it was a vulnerable target for Democrats.

Crenshaw gained national attention during his first term in office after Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson mocked him for losing an eye from an IED blast while serving in Afghanistan.

Davidson said, “You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate for Texas and not a hit man in a porno movie,” before adding, “I’m sorry. I know he lost his eye in war — or whatever.”

The lawmaker brushed off the joke and accepted Davidson’s apology a week later during a surprise appearance with the comedian on SNL.
