President Trump’s national emergency declaration, which allows him to bypass Congress and redirect money to build a wall along the southern border, was met with a slew of lawsuits in federal court.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also announced that the House would vote on a joint resolution to prevent the emergency declaration on Tuesday, which Trump has said he’d veto.
Michael Cohen, President Trump’s former longtime lawyer and fixer, will reportedly testify behind closed doors to the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. It’s one of three congressional appearances he’s slated for in the next several days.
Finally, Trump tweeted a response following the charges against “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett, who Chicago police say staged a fake attack on himself, which the actor had suggested was committed by Trump supporters.
“@JussieSmollett – what about MAGA and the tens of millions of people you insulted with your racist and dangerous comments!? #MAGA,” Trump tweeted, shortly after the Chicago Police Department held a press conference on the alleged incident.
