California is Jim Gilmore country.
Nearly four months after Gilmore dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination, he had his best primary by far in the Golden State on Tuesday.
With100 percent of California precincts accounted for just after 1 p.m. ET Wednesday morning, the Associated Press reported the former governor received 11,101 votes (.71 percent of the vote). That number is over 10,000 votes more than he got in his home state of Virginia on March 3.
Only five Republican names appeared on the ballot, including presumptive nominee Donald Trump, along with dropouts Ted Cruz, John Kasich and Ben Carson.
Gilmore ended his campaign in February after a dismal showing in the polls, and receiving only 12 votes in the Iowa caucuses and 133 votes in the New Hampshire primary.
