Retail giant Amazon said Friday that Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts was trying to break up the company in order to suppress criticism from the corporation.
Amazon fired back at Warren for saying that she wanted to split up Big Tech companies such as Amazon in order to force them to pay more in taxes and to ensure the corporation was not “powerful enough to heckle senators with snotty tweets.”
“One of the most powerful politicians in the United States just said she’s going to break up an American company so that they can’t criticize her anymore,” Amazon said in a Tweet on Friday afternoon.
This is extraordinary and revealing. One of the most powerful politicians in the United States just said she’s going to break up an American company so that they can’t criticize her anymore. https://t.co/Nt0wcZo17g

The spat between Warren and the tech giant erupted on Twitter on Thursday after the senator accused large corporations such as Amazon of making huge profits but exploiting loopholes and tax havens to pay “close to nothing in taxes.” She added that she would soon be introducing a bill to tax highly profitable corporations.
