White House won’t comment on Steve Scalise shooter’s left-wing political views

Published

White House press secretary Sean Spicer declined to comment Monday on the far-left political leanings of the man who police say shot House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others at a congressional Republican baseball practice last week.

Asked what the president thinks of James Hodgkinson’s reported political views and support of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential race, Spicer cited the ongoing investigation. He also declined to say whether the president believes the divisive political climate may have played a role.
