Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions said he is open to serving as Donald Trump’srunning mate and “would consider the position” like “any other citizen should” if offered.
“If I could help him in some way — and he were to ask me — I would consider it like any other citizen should,” Sessions told the Daily Caller during an interview.
He added, “Can I help? Can I help the country do better if I accepted or not? But I don’t expect that to happen. And I’ve certainly had no discussions with him about it.”
Sessions was the first senator to endorse Trump’s campaign back in February. Sessions’ name has been floated, among many others, to serve in Trump’s Cabinet. The business mogul has said that he wants to pick someone with experience in politics to run on the GOP ticket with him.
Although Sessions is open to discussing possibilities with Trump, he hasn’t had contact with the campaign yet, and when asked what he thought his odds of being picked were, Sessions replied, “I think he can get a better candidate.”
