2 killed in crash between vehicle, trash truck

WASHINGTON (AP) — Police say two people were killed and four others were injured in a crash between a private vehicle and a District of Columbia government trash truck.

The crash occurred Saturday morning on Route 295, known as the Anacostia Freeway, near the Pennsylvania Avenue exit in southeast Washington.

Police say the driver of the car that hit the trash truck was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 23-year-old Edmond Crawford of Oxon Hill, Maryland. His front-seat passenger, 29-year-old Ltonya Brown, also of Oxon Hill, died at a hospital. A rear-seat passenger was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and two passengers in the trash truck also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
