Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell declared a state of emergency on Sunday after tornadoes and flash flooding whipped through the East Coast’s midsection and left at least five people dead in the state.
McDonnell’s announcment will speed state resources to the areas that were hardest-hit by the storms, which include Halifax and Gloucester counties.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by the storms and flooding in the Commonwealth,” McDonnell said.
