What: Sending letters to local Tea Party groups across the country demanding mountains of information, including names of volunteers, names of board members or other officers who have or might in the future run for public office, and the names of donors (even though contributions to such groups aren’t tax-deductible).
Why it’s dim: Want to bet the IRS has never asked Media Matters for America for such information?
Cure: Abolish the IRS and give America a flat tax.
