New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will join North Carolina Senate candidate Thom Tillis tomorrow on the campaign trail, jumping into one of the hottest races this fall.
As head of the Republican Governors Association, Christie has stumped for a number of gubernatorial candidates, but campaigning for the Senate race may be more a sign of his potential 2016 presidential campaign.
He’ll join Tillis, the GOP state speaker, in Wilmington, N.C., on Tuesday morning, according to the Tillis campaign.
Incumbent Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan leads Tillis by about four points, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls. Christie is doing better, leading the field of contenders for the Republican presidential nomination in recent polls.
If Christie runs, North Carolina could be a key state. An increasingly purple state, it went for President Obama in 2008 and for Mitt Romney in 2012.
