Bosch time. Unbeknownst to a number of us at The Weekly Standard, NPR did a live reading of a Twitter discussion between Jonathan V. Last, our digital editor, and his wife Shannon. The topic? How to load the dishwasher. Check out the transcript, or tune in at about the 36 minute mark.
Make light bulbs great again. As the Washington Post reports, it looks like the Trump Energy Department is eyeing scrapping Obama-era light bulb efficiency regulations.
Renaming Washington-Lee High School. In local news, the Kojo Nnamdi Show reports, there’s a fight to keep the name of a Virginia high school. Admittedly, I’d be fine with just calling it Washington High School.
Speaking of local news… One of my favorite Alexandria eateries, RT’s, was named as one of the best southern restaurants in the country. If you’re local to the swamp and haven’t been, it’s a must visit. If you’re planning on taking the ‘fam to D.C. for the obligatory summer visit, mark it down: It’s a down home cajun joint with fantastic fare, free parking, and affordable prices.
30 years man! It’s 8/8/18, so do enjoy this throwback video of Harry Carey and Bill Murray at Wrigley Field celebrating the very first instance of night baseball at Wrigley. Even if it is the (barf) Cubs, it’s a worthwhile throwback and part of baseball history.
Holy Cow!

What it’s like to cover the Manafort trial. The New York Times has a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like being an in-courtroom reporter for the Manafort trial. I’m against cameras in the courtroom for the obvious reasons—above all preserving dramatic reenactments—but maybe at least we can release the audio in podcast form?
The plastic gun panic. Has it been that long since 1986? I guess so. But for those old enough to remember the media and movie depictions of guns back then, remember the myth of the metal-detector proof gun? Reason’s Volokh Conspiracy takes a trip down memory lane.
Josh Hawley probably regrets cutting this ad. As he won his primary yesterday in Missouri, and will now face Claire McCaskill in the fall. It’s cringeworthy in its lack of foresight.
Moon fails. If you need a laugh, do enjoy these clips of astronauts face planting on the moon.
The beginning of the end of social? Snapchat is in trouble. Is this the beginning of the end?
