Fox News projects that Rick Santorum will finish third in South Carolina, which presumably means that he has a statistically significant lead over Ron Paul. That suggests that Santorum will stay in the race in the ten days from now until the Florida primary. By the way, the reason Mitt Romney has been leading Newt Gingrich in the tabulated vote is that the first votes reported were from Charleston County, which looks to be, as was expected, Romney country. Gingrich, in contrast, clearly did very well in the Up Country along I-85, around Greenville and Spartanburg, where four years ago the totals for Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson ran well ahead of the totals for John McCain and Mitt Romney.
