Morgan State men?s basketball coach Todd Bozeman is scheduled to go on trial April 24 for misdemeanor charges stemming from an altercation that occurred Feb. 3 at a Farmville, Va., restaurant following a loss at Longwood University.
On Tuesday, Bozeman traveled to Virginia, where he was served with an arrest warrant before posting a $1,000 unsecured bond, said Prince Edward County (Va.) Commonwealth attorney Jim Ennis. Bozeman?s trial is scheduled to take place at Prince Edward County General District Court.
Bozeman was charged with assault and battery, a first-class misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $2,500 fine. Bozeman is also charged with curse and abuse, punishable by up to a $500 fine.
The charges came after Bozeman went to Mulligan?s restaurant in search of a refund after his order did not come out to what he originally wanted. Restaurant manager Carlos Holland told The Examiner that Bozeman at one point grabbed restaurant employee Stephanie Shreck and pushed her out of the way.
Bozeman said Saturday that he was falsely accused of the charges and is ready to have his day in court to defend himself.
The off-the-court incident overshadowed a big win for Morgan State ? a 71-61 victory over visiting Norfolk State Monday. Senior Joseph McLean scored 20 points and had six rebounds, Jamar Smith scored 18 points and Ronald Timus had 16 points for the Bears (10-13, 8-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
