O?Malley looks at transportation revenues

Gov. Martin O?Malley said he?s looking at a progressive source of new revenues to bolster the transportation trust fund, since “the current level of investment in our transportation solutions is not enough to protect our quality of life.”

O?Malley said Monday he doesn?t want to raise fees for driver?s licenses or registration, but wants something that?s broad, progressive and long-term.

Senate President Thomas Mike Miller had proposed a 12-cent gasoline tax hike. House Speaker Michael Busch said Monday that he would favor an increase in the titling tax, essentially the sales tax on vehicles, since buyers of more expensive cars would pay more.
