SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Two state prison guards face charges in the killing of a Paso Robles vineyard manager during a fight outside a San Luis Obispo County bar earlier this month.
Arrest warrants were issued Thursday for Sergio Aranda, 35, and Travis Woolf, 36, on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter in the Sept. 7 death of Alvaro Jaramillo Medrano, the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department said Friday.
Woolf was arrested at Salinas Valley State Prison in Monterey County, where both suspects work. Aranda avoided being arrested when a lawyer posted bail for him.
A prison spokesman told the San Luis Obispo Tribune (http://bit.ly/1ms8qin ) that both men were placed on leave Friday.
Aranda refused to comment when reached by The Associated Press on Saturday. Efforts to reach Woolf were unsuccessful, and it wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
Medrano managed La Vista Vineyard in Paso Robles and consulted for other vineyards.
He died after a fight outside the Elkhorn Bar in San Miguel.
