Droning on …

Remember back in 2006 when, during then-Judge Samuel Alito’s Senate confirmation hearing, Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., famously told Alito, “I’d like to say a few very brief things at the outset,” and then took 13 minutes to stop rambling and ask his first question?

Well, we were treated to a similar moment Wednesday when Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., headed to the School of Advanced International Studies to deliver a speech on Afghanistan.

The junior senator from Massachusetts opened his remarks by telling the audience: “I will say a few brief remarks and then I’ll take your questions.”

He then proceeded to pontificate for 45 minutes and took only four questions.

That’s what four terms in the “world’s greatest deliberative body” will do to you.
