OANN announces it is switching to Rumble after feud with YouTube

One America News Network announced that it is making the switch to Rumble after a tumultuous relationship with YouTube.

“OANN decided to #MakeTheSwitch to #Rumble, where we can freely report the news without restrictions or censorship,” the network announced on Twitter. “Subscribe to our channel at http://rumble.com/OANN or download the Rumble app!”

The move comes a week after YouTube barred One America News Network from posting new videos and suspended its ability to monetize its existing content. The one-week ban was due to violating YouTube’s policy on COVID-19 misinformation after the network publicized a “cure” to the virus.

OANN was also suspended from YouTube’s Partner program, forcing the company to reapply if it wants to monetize its content again.

YouTube, which is owned by Google, has a “three-strikes” policy for violations of its terms of service before an account is permanently terminated. The recent suspension of OANN was the network’s first strike, and from now on will not receive any more warnings for violations of YouTube’s policies, only strikes.

In making the move to Rumble, OANN has joined a growing movement of conservatives who are switching to the YouTube alternative that bills itself as “free-speech friendly.” The video host was founded in 2013 and says it “provides video creators a way to host, manage, distribute, create OTT [over the top] feeds and monetize their content.”

Conservative political commentator Dan Bongino co-owns Rumble and says it is a place where “conservative views won’t be discriminated against.”

Bongino also co-owns Parler, a social media platform billed as a free-speech alternative to Facebook and Twitter.

President Trump has been a staunch supporter of OANN, encouraging his followers to watch the network after growing frustrated with some of the content on Fox News. Trump has called OANN “much better” than Fox’s weekend programming or CNN and “MSDNC.”
