President Trump’s handshakes with French President Emmanuel Macron lit up Twitter on Thursday, but it’s hardly the first time Trump’s forceful greetings have gained notice.
His handshake when he announced Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court was one of the first times Trump put his intense style on full display.

Twitter users found his handshakes with world leaders like Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and British Prime Minister Theresa May similarly uncomfortable.

On his recent trip to Israel, Trump originally appeared to ignore Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s initial offer of a handshake.
Trump sparked some controversy on Twitter after he appeared to ignore German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s request for a handshake, yet shook hands with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi.

Leaders like Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon appeared to have learned the lessons of other leaders on the receiving ends of Trump’s handshakes and found ways to hold their own.
