For Paul, all this talk is an attention getter

The ridiculous NBA trade rumors usually have no merit — see Gilbert Arenas to the Lakers — but sometimes they do have meaning. And that could be why New Orleans guard Chris Paul‘s name has come up so much lately.

It started with a member of LeBron James’ camp supposedly telling teams that getting Paul would guarantee landing James. (So he’s going to New Orleans now?)

If only Paul were available. But this forced some digging into the situation. Sure enough, in reports about his potential availability, it mentions his displeasure/concern with the direction of the franchise. One executive opines that he’s “still [upset] about Tyson [Chandler] from last year.” In other words, when the Hornets traded Chandler in 2009 for not a lot.

Paul does not want to see New Orleans, in the midst of an ownership transition, do the same with players such as David West or Darren Collison.

“It’s his way of getting the new owner’s attention,” the executive said.

Simple as that.
