Men claim to be bank worker, pastor in scam
A man claiming to be a Bank of America employee and a man claiming to be a pastor tricked a woman into giving them money.
On Friday at about 11 a.m., two men approached a woman in the parking lot of the CVS at 12209 Veirs Mill Road. The men said they would give her money if she gave them cash from her bank account, Montgomery County police said.
The woman drove with the suspects to several ATMs and gave them the money, police said. The suspects went to a nearby Bank of America and claimed they were going to give the woman the money they had offered her earlier, but instead they disappeared.
Fifteen-year-old charged in high school bomb threat
A 15-year-old boy from Woodbridge was arrested for allegedly making a bomb threat at a Prince William County high school, police said.
School authorities told police Friday about graffiti found in a boy’s bathroom at C.D. Hylton Senior High School that implied there was a bomb at the school. After investigating, authorities determined the threat was not credible, Prince William County police said.
Police learned who wrote the graffiti. The boy was charged with threats to bomb.
Husband of woman killed in police shooting sues officer
The husband of a woman shot to death by a police officer has filed a multimillion-dollar wrongful death lawsuit.
Patricia Cook, 54, was fatally shot on Feb. 9, after a Culpeper police officer approached Cook in her car when he responded to the report of a suspicious person in a Jeep Wrangler in a church parking lot.
In a lawsuit filed in Culpeper County Circuit Court, her husband, Gary Cook, is seeking $5 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages from a police officer identified in the lawsuit as the shooter.
