When it comes to testing, D.C. middle school in the dark

With the recent speculation-storm surrounding D.C. testing gains, D.C. Public Schools officials should be happy that Tuesday’s standardized testing almost went smoothly. Alas, a power outage at Jefferson Middle School canceled classes for all students.

“Given that they only lost one day of testing, Jefferson should be able to administer make-up tests within the allotted testing window,” said Safiya Simmons, spokeswoman for Acting Chancellor Kaya Henderson.

At least one teacher took to Twitter to announce how stressed the disruption to the DC Comprehensive Assessment System made her. Maria Angala, a special education teacher at Jefferson, wrote, “… there are so many things that happen that lead to low test scores beyond the control of admins, teachers & unions, why blame us?”
