Trump camp rips Clinton’s ‘trillion dollar climate agenda’

Donald Trump’s campaign slammed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s endorsement from the Sierra Club Sunday, calling it proof that Clinton wants to end fossil fuel production in the U.S.

The Sierra Club endorsed Clinton in June and Trump spokesman Jason Miller said being linked to group” with “Beyond Coal” and “Beyond Natural Gas” campaigns shows the Democrat’s distaste for fossil fuel production.

“Hillary Clinton claims to support American energy jobs, but the truth is that Hillary is fully aligned with anti-coal and anti-shale energy groups and will implement policies, like her trillion dollar climate agenda, that will devastate coal permanently in this country and cut-off access to most of our shale energy resources,” Miller said in a statement.

“Hillary even issued a campaign statement saying she was ‘honored’ to receive the endorsement of the same group that runs the ‘Beyond Coal’ and ‘Beyond Natural Gas’ campaigns, which celebrate the closure of coal mines and now seek to ban shale energy production in the United States.”

He added, “Donald Trump supports the use of all sources of American energy, including coal, shale energy, nuclear, renewables and other sources, and he will fight for energy policies that are in the interest of all Americans, not the politically-connected.”

The general election campaign has a seen a firm line drawn between the two candidates on environmental policies.

Trump is seen as the candidate of the fossil fuel industry, promising to open up more federal lands to energy production and repeal environmental regulations handed down by President Obama. He has also promised to pull out of the Paris Agreement, the world’s first climate change agreement.

Clinton, meanwhile, is much more likely to continue Obama’s environmental legacy and has promised to keep the country in the Paris Agreement.
