Republican Rep. Jim Banks asked the FBI to add new language to their list of extremist ideologies to include antifa.
“While the FBI declines to keep a public or official list of domestic terrorist organizations, it does outline extremist ideologies that often lead to domestic terrorism,” the letter Banks sent to FBI Director Christopher Wray says, according to the Hill.
He also argued that there is no category on the list that antifa would fit into and asked for one that “encompasses Antifa’s political goals as openly broadcasted by its leaders on their social media platforms.”
Banks suggested the addition of a category that would cover all “Anti-1st Amendment Extremists.”

Last week, Sen. Ted Cruz sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr, Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, and FBI Director Christopher Wray asking for an investigation into antifa. That same day, the president announced he is giving “consideration” to “declaring ANTIFA, the gutless Radical Left Wack Jobs who go around hitting (only non-fighters) people over the heads with baseball bats, a major Organization of Terror (along with MS-13 & others).”
Back in June, journalist Andy Ngo was assaulted during an antifa rally in Portland, Oregon.
